Our friend, Kate, came over for dinner on Sunday night and asked a lot of wedding questions. She also gave us some great suggestions as well. Eric and I have never been to this Jewel Box located in Forest Park. From what Kate was saying that it's kind of like a greenhouse where there is a lot of greenery inside and little need for any decorations.
I thought it would be perfect since we are looking to have a wedding that is somewhat outdoors. We are also considering the Butterfly House and the Japanese Garden at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
We did make a page from theknot.com. The wedding date is just an estimate, not a real one!

Saturday Night Adventure!
This past Saturday I was having an awful day. Usually I go over to Eric's and hang out for the day but just wasn't in the mood to hanging out with people so I headed home and Eric decided to come over. After taking a much needed nap and feeling a bit refreshed we decided to go to Schafly's for dinner. If you haven't eaten at Schafly's you should definitely check it out. I'm more of a fan of the Bottleworks than the Tap Room location.
We decided to head to Walgreens to pick up a few things. During dinner I had received a voicemail from my Aunt for me to call her back. I knew it would be a long conversation so I wanted until after dinner to call her back. Eric went into Walgreens to pick up a few things and I talked to my aunt. When Eric got back in the car he tried to start the car and the car started doing weird things that remind me of a horror movie. The lights in the car flickered, the dashboard lights were going crazy, and the CDs in the CD player were switching. Eric tried to figure out the cause and there was no luck.
So finally after trying to troubleshoot it Eric called Pontiac's Roadside service and I started calling my friends to see if someone would come and get me. Unfortunately, one was out, one was in Chicago and the other didn't pick up. So I ended up calling Sarah who luckily had just gotten back from Houston a couple days ago. Her hubby Josh was able to come and get me and take me to my car at home!
When I got back to Eric we waited for the Roadside Assistance to come. We waited and waited and at about 11 he decided to call again. Eric learned that they typed in his number incorrectly and that it would take 3 hours for them to get to his car. So he left his car unlocked with the keys hidden. Since I had to be up early the next morning I took him home and he was going to take his grandmother's car and wait since it wasn't safe to leave an unlocked car with keys in it.
Eric asked me to swing by the car on the way home to make sure it was still okay. So I did and there was the tow truck! The guy told me to call Eric and pick up the car because it started! I couldn't believe it! So I went to pick up Eric to take him to his car and when we got there...the car wouldn't start!
Finally after waiting 5 minutes it started back up. Yesterday Eric took the car to the dealership and they told him it was the battery. We found out that since I had left my phone car charger in his car all week it had been slowly draining his battery which doesn't happen in my car. Whoops!

When's The Date?
One of the many questions I get asked almost daily. There are a lot of things that Eric and I still need to think about. Before getting engaged we did zero wedding talk, figuring that we would cross the bridge when we got there. Well, all I have to say now is that there is really a LOT of work that's put into this and a lot of factors to think about.
First, Eric and I need to compile a guest list. I already have about 150 people and after talking to Eric's grandmother his side of the family is another 150 people. So I'm thinking we're going to have to find a place that can accommodate 300-400 people. However, I also need to think about how some of those will be no-shows.
Second, there are really two or three ideal times in the year that work. Since I am starting my PhD in the fall I rather not get married during the school year while I'm taking classes and teaching PLUS I don't want to take a semester off. So...that leaves mid-May to the end of August and mid-December to mid-January. I'd rather not get married in July or August when it is very hot. Currently two dates are possible for the spring: May 24, 2009 (Memorial Day Weekend) or June 7, 2009 (the date in which we got engaged). Do I risk getting married in May when it will most likely rain? Get married in June when it could be hot? Or get married when it's cold when there could be a blizzard preventing my out of town guests from coming?
Third, I'm debating whether I want to have a Chinese Tea Ceremony. I would love to, but space, location, and time is a big factor. I don't want there to be a lot of time in between the Tea Ceremony, traditional ceremony, and the reception. Also, what's up with the superstitions anyways, is it just bad to see the bride on the wedding day or just bad to see the bride in her dress on the wedding day? Plus what about pictures? When do we do all of that?
So before I can set the date I need to figure all of those factors out. Who knew that getting married would involve SO much work? I certainly had no idea and not really taking up on suggestions for just Eric and I to have a small civil ceremony. I'm only getting married once and I want a wedding and to share it all with my friends and family. I hope you'll join us.

A picture!
We're Engaged!
Saturday night Eric and I were at my apartment getting ready to go to the Central West End Art Fair and Taste. Eric had spent most of the day working on his computer and it was getting late for eating dinner. I was anxious to go (and also distracted that the neighbor next to me had their blinds up and I could see all the clothes everywhere). Anyways, I walked into my room to look out my window (to see if the other blinds were up...hey I'm curious!) and Eric says from behind that he has something that he needs to get off his chest.
I turn around and then he gets on one knee and asks me to marry him! It was short, sweet, and perfect. I was totally surprised and can't remember exactly what I said but I think it was something like "umm..okay." He slipped the ring on and that was it! We're getting married!
Sunday we spent the day telling family and very close friends. We have not set the date yet and Eric said that he wants to wait a week (at least) to enjoy this happy occasion before making any wedding plans. I'm happy to obliged as I have heard that planning a wedding isn't easy.
We're thankful for all the wonderful family and friends that have supported our relationship and love over the past 8 years! We look forward to celebrating our marriage with you.
P.S. Check back soon to see pictures!
