ONE WEEK LEFT!

Eric and I have been running all around town like crazy to get some of the last minute materials that we need for our wedding. Everytime we cross something off our to-do list, we find something else to add on there!

Friday night I met up with Eric in Brentwood. After we finished eating we headed to Bed, Bath and Beyond, Crate and Barrel, Wal-Mart, and the mall. We didn't get home until 10.

Saturday, after breakfast we headed to the bank, went to a boutique to get a pair of Spanx (these apparently are what celebrities wear to look slim). We then went home to have lunch. After lunch we headed back to Wal-Mart, Target, the mall, two Chinese grocery stores, Eric's grandma's house, my parent's restaurant, Walgreens, Michael's, another Walgreens, Party City, my parent's house, and then finally back to our apartment. We got back around 9.

Still left to do: go back to the mall (maybe, depends if we need to get a present), go to a Chinese store, go to my parent's, grocery shopping (I've been needing to go for a few days now), and to Michael's. We still have so many little things to get! This is just for the wedding, Eric and I still have a lot of personal things we need to get taken care of!

In one week though, it'll be over. It's a happy and sad feeling at the same time (at least for me it is, Eric says he'll be so glad once the planning is completely finished!).

Happy Birthday Jennifer!

After our wonderful friends and family helped us with the vases, bows, and chopsticks, we took them out to dinner to celebrate the finish of that task! It wasn't easy, but it was nice to have it finished.

Eric's cousin, Jennifer, has a birthday coming up next week. Unfortunately, it is way too busy with prepping for the wedding and Memorial Day Weekend doesn't make birthday planning quite easy. So Eric and I decided to have a little surprise birthday celebration at Schafly's. If you've never been there, I recommend it. The food is good, but you have to order the right thing! :) Isn't that true with any restaurant? We were able to sneak a cake in and the staff was gracious enough to provide plates and forks and not charge us a $2 per person cake fee (don't even get me started on that topic...). Sorry we can't celebrate on your real birthday, but hope you enjoyed the cake!

You Might Hate Us Now...

Dear Friends,

This past Sunday, you came and helped us. You tirelessly tied ribbons onto vases so that we could put fresh, beautiful flowers as part of our centerpieces. Those ribbons wouldn't work well with your bulky fingers, the bows were off-centered, but yet you continued to pursue the fine art of bows on vases.

You also scraped those darn stickers off the bottom of the vases so that it wouldn't look ugly on the table. You used Goo Gone to help get that stickiness off the vases, your hands still today smell like Oranges, that reminds you of the hard work you did for our centerpieces.

Then you also helped hole-punched cards and even fold some 400 cards as well. You then helped tie ribbons with the cards on the chopsticks. All 400 chopsticks. We know that the calluses on your fingers is a symbol of your love for us, to help us tie all 400 chopsticks so that the people at our wedding will treasure those chopsticks forever.

You may hate us now, but remember: these experiences only gets you ready for your own wedding! Thanks to all that helped us out this past weekend, we couldn't have done it without you!

Love,
Nancy & Eric

Bachlorette Par-tay

Time is flying by! In less than two weeks, our big day will be here!

Gianina, a friend from grad school, put together an evening of fun. We first met up this past Friday at TGI Fridays. My other friends, Jessica and Nicole came along too. Eric's cousins, Jennifer, Vanessa and Leslie also joined in on the fun. After dinner, we went to the Cards game and Kate met us there. Right after we scored a home run, it started pouring. Forty minutes later they called it a rain out. So sad :(

Since it was a Friday night a lot of people were tired and went home. Leslie, Vanessa, Gianina and I continued on and went to the Big Bang. We drank, sang, and made fun of other girls who were drunk. It was a fun night. You know I don't post without some pictures!

Thanks guys for making it a fun night!

Patience is Wearing Thin

Three weeks from today, Eric and I will be married. Between now and then there are a ton of things that need to get done. We are starting to get nervous.

Eric's work is on a tight deadline so Eric is called to be putting in extra effort at work, which takes him away from wedding things. We still have so much many little tiny details that we need to get ironed out before our big day. Flowers, transportation, ceremony procedures, music, candles, food...all of these needs to be placed in order.

I start summer classes next week and I'm in the process of interviewing/applying for a new job. It's starting to get really stressful. Wish we had more time....

4 Weeks and Eric flies a plane

Eric here. Felt I should say that up front since I'm not the usual person posting on this blog. Not sure why it's even called Eric and Nancy's ramblings. It should be Nancy's Ramblings With Occasional Appearances by Eric.

Anyway, we decided trying to do our own ceremony flowers was going to be too much to try to do so we started looking around. Thankfully not a single person I emailed told me it was too short notice, something I was a bit afraid of. Thursday we visited Walter Knoll Florist and Distinctive Designs. Then on Saturday we visited the florist next to Hunan Kitchen called Green Dream Florist. Still need to make a decision, but it doesn't seem like it's any problem as long as we don't take too horribly long to do it (we're shooting for Monday).

Today, Sunday the 3rd, my best man Dave Elder and his brother Jason took me up in a Cessna Skyhawk II as part of my bachelor party! Jason earned his pilots license a year or so ago, and it was awesome to learn a little bit during the hour we were up there. He did most of the flying, but did turn control over to me both in the air and while taxiing on the runway. It's amazing how similar flying a real plane is to flying in a simulator such as X-Plane from the stand point of how everything works and the sense of speed. Biggest thing missing was the actual feeling of the plane starting to tip it's nose down when going into a left turn (or a right, kind of a blur).

The front end and prop of the plane, with Jason in the middle of doing the pre-flight checks.

Me actually flying! Had fun learning how to look at the gauges to determine less obvious things like how much rudder is needed to be applied to avoid "slip." Not sure what that even means, but I know how to avoid it!

We were all surprised by how much flooding there was. I just like the boat moored to the side of the house in this shot. I'm not sure why anyone would actually choose to live this close to a river.

Final approach on our last landing. I was certainly not driving here. The only "successful" landing I have had in X-Plane was successful in that there wasn't anything blown up. I simply broke off all landing gear and skidded to a stop 50 feet past the end of the runway.

It was a blast and I'd love to do that again, maybe even trying to get a pilot's license. Maybe when I'm rich someday.
